Too overwhelmed to write? Tame the chaos with this new tool!
Have you ever sat down to "be a writer" and wondered:
What the heck am I even focusing on today?
Am I writing enough?
What stories do I have to submit to this call to pitch?
In my experience, writers get overwhelmed because they don't have clear answers to three questions:
Where am I going?
What should I do next?
What counts as enough and am I doing it?
Starting every writing session by choosing among 17 projects, 63 ideas, 4 deadlines, and 1 exciting new essay you invented in the shower is neither fun nor productive.
It is a recipe for decision fatigue, and that is why you're so tired and overwhelmed.
That's why we built the new Writer's Life OS Dashboard
You get one clear place to see the most important parts of your creative life.
You can:
See your three big writing goals.
These are the big rocks—the accomplishments that would most help you become the writer you want to be. Finish the book. Submit the proposal. Sell the essay you cannot stop thinking about.
Choose your three priority stories.
These are not necessarily the only pieces you plan to complete this year. They are the pieces you are focusing on right now. They stay pinned at the top of your Creative Works list so you do not have to search through every brilliant idea you have ever had before deciding what to work on.
Track your writing habit.
Set a daily or weekly writing goal, then record your progress. Your writing history becomes a heat map, so you can look back and see evidence that you have, in fact, been writing.
This matters because writers have a terrible habit of acting as though we are only as good as the writing we did today.
Your writing history reminds you: The habit is there. I am doing the thing.
The dashboard also displays your writing streak at the top! So satisfying!
“It’s really cool. It’s intuitive, and I feel like a lot of creatives are—at least for me, structure is my biggest downfall. My mind just goes in a million directions in all kinds of creative endeavors. So this is really great.”
Your three Writer’s Life To Do's This Week:
Get your FREE Writer's Life OS here and do these three things:
1. Add 3 big writing goals.
Click on Big Dreaming Goals and choose three meaningful goals you want to accomplish, perhaps within the next 90 days or by the end of the year. Give each one a deadline.
2. Select your three priority stories.
In Creative Works, choose the pieces you want to focus on first, out of all the noise of your other ideas.
3. Set your writing goal in the Habit Tracker.
Decide what “enough” looks like for you. It might be a number of minutes, words, pages, or writing days each week. Enter that in the Habit Tracker.
That is it.
You do not have to organize your entire writing career before lunch. Start with these three decisions, and let the dashboard narrow the distance between your big creative life and what you are doing today.
This is your invitation to stop building another spreadsheet, losing another idea, or staring at your computer wondering which project deserves your attention.
